About
Erwan Frotin was born both Swiss and French. After graduating from Ecal in Lausanne, Switzerland with a focus in photography, his first commissioned works were published by
Vogue France
, then under the artistic direction of M/M Paris. Frotin went on to gain international recognition in the 2000s with innovative still life projects, setting influential standards for the genre. One can distinguish his photographs by their sculptural and otherwordly poetic approach, the result of a fusion of his diverse interests - from botany to theater arts, history, zoology and color theory - and his deep connection to nature and spirituality.
Frotin's unique personality is reflected in his broad pictorial understanding and translates into a singular aptitude for the choice of subject, composition and color. He employs a mesmerizing visual language built on flowers, portraits, still life, animals and landscapes, which extend to his personal projects (among them,
Flora Olbiensis
and
FLUX
), to striking editorial collaborations with
Another Magazine
,
Arena Homme Plus
,
Numero Homme
,
Numero China
,
Paradis
,
System
,
The New York Times
and to advertising work for clients including Apple, Berluti, Cartier, Dior Jewelry, Loewe and others.
Frotin's work is regularly awarded and appears in solo and group exhibitions in France, the United States, Switzerland and Italy. His series of books,
FLUX
, embodies Frotin’s long-term commitment to portraying the continuity of life through the diversity of nature. Each volume offers a hypnotic sequence of highly detailed and colorful images, opening the viewer to the possibility of unexpected relationships between human and non-human wonders.
FLUX
depicts Frotin’s reflections on the mysteries of beings and places, their endless transformation and our collective interweaving as a living planet.
